We hope soon to have some answers here for those landowners opposed to the cull and with questions about their legal situation. For the moment we can only suggest that you stay calm and polite if any WAG contractors come to your land, and insist on them doing so at a time and date that is convenient for you. Contrary to what we had understood earlier, they claim not to need a warrant. You do appear to have the right to record everything they do on your land, including videoing or photographing them. This handy checklist may help you try to get information out of them, but do not be surprised if they refuse to answer many of the questions - we know they do not wish to reveal their names, for example.
The Cull Watch website has also been set up to both track culling activity and to offer moral support to landowners who will have contractors on their land. If you would like someone with you when the contractors come, get in touch with Cull Watch and they or PAC will try to be there. If you know of culling activity, including Sett Surveys, Cull Watch would appreciate even anonymous information.
Cull Watch is a powerful campaigning tool, with the main focus on frankly publicising the reality of the badger cull. It makes information about the cull available to the public, including a rough map of the cull area.It also offers legal and peaceful support to landowners when faced with visits from WAG contractors. It aims to directly publicise the events in West Wales as they unfold, through a completely law-abiding programme of reportage. When the full scale of the cruelty is known, citizens of Wales and beyond can hold those responsible to account via voting and consumer choices. Support to pro-badger landowners is also available in the form of a physical presence, capable of witnessing and recording the actions of WAG's anonymous contractors. The presence of cull monitors will also serve as a deterrent to further illegal cruelty which could occur during badger trapping and killing".
If you are a landowner in the cull area and opposed to the cull, please sign and return a copy of our open letter to the Welsh Assembly.
